Thanks all for the big welcome; I trust you'll excuse me if I don't address you all individually yet; I'm sure there will be time for that later.

My experience wasn't that bad for me at DU, more annoying than anything else; but it is frustrating that many people including a lot of good people at DU I'm sure can have their board partially ruined by a small number of people that are manipulative. I found that not feeding the trolls is a good way to minimize the damage and many others have also done this.

DU's rules are available for everybody to read. However, their rules are also a bit unclear.

Rules against campaigning for people that the forum doesn't support are highly inappropriate in any forum that pretends to provide an honest discussion about issues and give everyone an equal chance. if their candidates can stand on their own merits then they wouldn't need any such rules to give them an unfair advantage.

In most cases they weren't enforced so extremely when I was active there but they shouldn't be there at all. this is a blatant attempt to rig the coverage on the board which pretends to be somewhat impartial.

Glad you found all of us. It's good to know that there is shade and friendliness without all the DU hassles. (There is a wonderful "two bears" video up about here at OldElm re: the various DU rules - if no one else offers it up to you, I'll spend some time finding it. It is true and also hilarious.)
