Well, well, well. Zach. At last we meet. Your reputation precedes you. Only this time, Roy Rogers will not ride into the sunset with Grace Kelly.
I always wanted to say that, except your name should be Andre Katharlowe. This space for rent |

RE: Hi Zack just joining
Thanks all for the big welcome; I trust you'll excuse me if I don't address you all individually yet; I'm sure there will be time for that later. My experience wasn't that bad for me at DU, more annoying than anything else; but it is frustrating that many people including a lot of good people at DU I'm sure can have their board partially ruined by a small number of people that are manipulative. I found that not feeding the trolls is a good way to minimize the damage and many others have also done this.
It’s not democracy if the public can’t get the education and information they need to participate. |

However, their rules are also a bit unclear. Quote:Winning elections is important — therefore, advocating in favor of Republican nominees or in favor of third-party spoiler candidates that could split the vote and throw an election to our conservative opponents is never permitted on Democratic Underground.Do the authorities at DU believe that every third-party candidate a spoiler candidate? If they believe that, then they don't merely prohibit campaigning against Dems, but prohibit campaigning in favor of anybody who isn't a Dem. Quote:But when general election season begins, DU members must support Democratic nominees (EXCEPT in rare cases where were a non-Democrat is most likely to defeat the conservative alternative, or where there is no possibility of splitting the liberal vote and inadvertently throwing the election to the conservative alternative). When did the authorities at DU ever reach the conclusion that there was no possibility of splitting the liberal vote and inadvertently throwing the election to the conservative alternative? One gets the impression of people who want to appear to be involved in give and take, but who are unwilling to give anything. A hint that you might be facing ideology: the same source claims to know that both of two statements are true, and the two statements are oozing with attitudes that are in harmony with each other, but there cannot be one universe in which both statements are true. |

In most cases they weren't enforced so extremely when I was active there but they shouldn't be there at all. this is a blatant attempt to rig the coverage on the board which pretends to be somewhat impartial. RE: Hi Zack just joining
HI Zach. A big welcome from me.
Glad you found all of us. It's good to know that there is shade and friendliness without all the DU hassles. (There is a wonderful "two bears" video up about here at OldElm re: the various DU rules - if no one else offers it up to you, I'll spend some time finding it. It is true and also hilarious.)
