For some of us it doesn't have much to do with the forums themselves. If I'm on call for VFD I don't like to post when I can't defend or explain my posts if there's a misunderstanding over what I've said, and I have no idea whether I'll be sitting here an hour from now to do so. Between that and work I may be away from my computer for three or four days or even more, at which point defending/explaining a post pretty much becomes necromancy. No one wants a zombie thread running around biting people.
So when I post it's usually either something non-controversial or when I know I'll be around for a while.

That and generally by the time I wander over to my computer someone has already said whatever I would say and said it better to boot.
