Stunning Photo that looks like a painting
![]() Quote:I took these images from my rooftop after my wife and I saw this storm coming up. I could see that the cloud was beginning to twist into a tornado with a rainbow underneath it....how weird is that?! It was 8pm with the sun setting which made the color of everything on the yellow/orange side. http://www.flickr.com/photos/the_kav/6047421895/ |

That's really beautiful. So much of photography is being at the right place at the right time.

Very cool. It appears that they may have added a tablespoon or two of Dynamic Range. Intense clouds though.

RE: Stunning Photo that looks like a painting
This photographer used a Post Processing technique called HDR (High Dynamic Range).
Photographs, both film and digital, are limited in the range of light that can be captured. This is especiall true for photos where part of the composition is in shade, and the other in bright light. The lens can be set to capture detail in either the shade, or the bright light, but not both at the same time. Our eyes function in the same way. That is why you are blind when moving from bright sunlight into a dim room until your eyes adjust. With cameras, especially modern digital cameras, it is possible to take several (or many) photos from the same position with different exposure settings, and then use software to merge those photos so that they display optimized settings for all the different lighting conditions. The results can range from subtle to psychedelic. http://apps.corel.com/ap/2011_ENP/au_gallery_HDR.htm |
