Photos of Chihuly exhibit in Seattle
Here are some photos of the Chihuly exhibit opening in Seattle. These are just gorgeous because of the color intensity. I was never a fan of glass until we had a similar exhibit of Chihuly works in our Conservatory 10 years ago. Glass usually seemed cold to me, and often still does, but seeing the color and the transparency interacting with the lush gardens and water features made it seem alive. Most of the pieces were specific for that installation and Chihuly allowed many of them to stay after the exhibit was over.

This thread could have gone in other areas, but I wanted to put it here, hoping that some of you might be able to give advice on photographing such colorful subjects in such low light, and anything else that would pertain to photographing these magnificent sculptures. I was not happy with the photos I took at our exhibit. They seemed dull, and I had trouble getting the exposure right.

I can't give advice. When I'm taking pictures of glasswork it's just luck when I get one that I like. I haven't mastered that myself.

The pictures look so fascinating. I remember seeing pictures of glass flowers while ago which were gorgeous, blending in with nature. I'd love to see them in person. I love glass art.

RE: Photos of Chihuly exhibit in Seattle
I would love to see a Chihuly exhibit. There is a wonderful place I go every year called Powell Gardens in Missouri. They always have some type of art scattered about the grounds. Changes every year. They do a masterful job of integrating the Art with the Flora.

If you told me what kind of camera you are using I might be able to help you. When you say the exposure was bad.... too light...too dark? Doing photography indoors (if that's the case here) can be tricky. You have to pay attention to the existing artificial light and any natural light. Find a way to make the best use of it.

It's difficult for me to offer any specific suggestions because it would depend on the 'tool' you are using and the amount of light available to you. I've done work in Museums where I couldn't use a tripod or a flash. Every room was different in terms of light so I was constantly changing things up to compensate.

This was taken indoors using a Lens Baby Lens on my old (and tired) Canon 20D. I did my best to use the light that was there without having a bunch of 'blown out' highlights.

What will you do today that you will remember tomorrow?
