Spent this past Saturday hanging out with Medea Benjamin

She's doing a speaking tour promoting her new book about drones. Went to Charlottesville and saw her speak on Friday night and then Saturday morning I drove Medea to Richmond to another event.

Obama was speaking at VCU on Saturday and Medea and I scoped it out trying to see if we could get in and do a banner drop or something. Unfortunately one of the local Richmond activists groups felt that protesting Obama would send the wrong signal to the local African American community and they didn't want to be perceived as racists. Which I thought was bullshit and a bit racist as well. What? Local blacks can't differentiate between legitimate criticism of the President and real rightwing/KKK style racism? It turns out that the local group didn't really think that, they were just using it for an excuse, turns out that they just really like Obama. Whatevs.

So we didn't have any support for a protest or for materials to make a banner and really didn't want to wait in line for 8 hours so we bagged it, chalked it up to a missed opportunity.

So then, Medea and I were hanging out in a local WiFi cafe with some time to kill and she saw that I had my camera so she asked me if I could take some photos of her for a poster promoting an event where she'll be speaking in Berkley, CA. So here are a few of those photos.

After that we went to another Richmond activist's house and met up with Ann Wright and watched Obama's rally on CSPAN.

The fact that they used a racist excuse to keep you from protesting obama speaks volumes about their desperation to keep this fraud in the WH.
I can see, leading up to the "election," that it's going to involve racism 24/7 (along with the rest of the phony non-issues) -- I'm so fucking glad I don't have a TV and won't have that in my face night and day.
