Guillen to address Castro comments in Miami
Guillen to address Castro comments in Miami
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/sns...9201.story

excerpt:

Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen will return to Miami on Monday night in order to try and diffuse a potentially explosive situation.

Guillen was quoted in a Time magazine article, which appeared online last Friday, praising former Cuban leader Fidel Castro for his longevity in the face of international scorn.

The 48-year-old initially planned on meeting with the media that day, but rescheduled for Tuesday, taking advantage of a one-day break in the Marlins' current three-game series against the Phillies in Philadelphia.

Americans and their obsession with Castro. I wonder whether they realize that they're an international laughingstock whenever the topic of Cuba comes up?

I don't think so, I was listening to some Sports Illustrated Reporter today apoplectic about how anyone could say anything good about Castro. (It was funny he was being interviewed and the interviewer was kind of saying the Miami community in particular was a sensitive area to back Castro in any way, and the reporter, just took it quite a bit further.)

At least his nation doesn't have tens of thousand die yearly lacking health care. In fact, I once heard the British government sent a group there to study Cuban medicine/the Cuban Health System to apply what they were doing well to the British National Health Service. Something America direly needs, if not single-payer...

See that's what I mean-

Canadians, Kiwi's & Aussies- and Europeans really do laugh at this foolishness, while enjoying Cuban products- and inexpensive winter holidays in the Cuban sun.

To illustrate the derangement:

I generally prefer one of the aged Appleton rums from Jamaica, but think I'll go out and get a bottle of this today:

Havana Club Añejo 7 Años

This excellent Cuban rum is aged seven years to an attractive medium amber color. On the nose; warm, smoky, deep aromas of tobacco and coffee. Slight tones of raisin and pineapple. Tasting reveals even more coffee and chocolate flavors, mixed with a taste of dry brown sugar, caramel or molasses, almost like a delightfully mild and very light version of Kahlua, but with a dry, woody finish.

RE: Guillen to address Castro comments in Miami
It's the wealthy Miami Cubans (no surprise the wealthy control America) that control US policy.

Quote:Q: In your book, you point out that in 2008, 55 percent of the Cuban community in Miami was in favour of an end to the blockade and 65 percent wanted Washington to re-establish relations with Havana. What is the real reason that Obama has not overhauled relations with Cuba?

A: During Obama’s campaign and at the start of his government, important percentages of anti-Castro voters were calling for a change in policy towards Cuba, as was a broad movement of organisations and personalities from both (the Democratic and Republican) parties.

That activism soon waned. Nevertheless, the votes (of the anti-Castro community) are important, and both parties cultivate them. Another reality is that Latin America, as a whole, has not been a priority for Obama. Nor has it been for most previous administrations. And Cuba even less so.

And there is too much domestic opposition to restore relations, lift the embargo, hand over Guantánamo (back to Cuba), and for Obama to embark on that battle with the Republicans, who have been dedicated, since the beginning of his government, to making him fail.

Obama has much more important challenges than throwing himself into that struggle, which would not bring him – or his country, or his government – a thing.
