Charlotte NC 2012/ Andrea
Andrea mentioned on a recent thread about gathering in Charlotte for the convention. Just thought I would add for those interested that there is a lot of camping sites around Charlotte.

RE: Charlotte NC 2012/ Andrea
Thanks HBravo. I was thinking I better start a separate thread, but hadn't done it yet. We better decide quickly if we are going to try to do this. I spent some time today trying to see what is available in the way of hotel and motel rooms. It's not good. The ones that are left are lower end motels, such as Super 8 and Knight's Inn. They have jacked up their prices to a ridiculous level. The cheapest I saw was $90 a night for a place that had horrible reviews. Most of them are going for $120 - 150. We'll need to plan to share rooms, most of us anyway. If there is anyone from the Charlotte area who could advise us on another nearby town that might have more reasonable rates, that would be great.
HBravo, camping might be a solution for a lot of people. I don't camp, but it seems possible that it would be cheaper to rent an RV than a hotel room. Let's make this thread both a place for people to check in regarding whether they want to do this, and a repository of information on lodging and other needs. One thing I know is that Charlotte has an Amtrak station, so train transport will be an option for some people. andrea@oldelmtree.com |

Naja, are you in touch with any of the Charlotte Occupy people? eta: Of course you can use my shower, assuming I make it there and have a hotel room. andrea@oldelmtree.com |

Naja, please check out all options, hostels, hotels, Facebook, etc. I know a couple of people (not very well) who live just out of Charlotte and it is not a safe place. This event will be a carnival for nefarious people. Veritas/Aequitas |

I tried back in May to get a hotel room and couldn't find anything within an hour radius of Charlotte at any price (not that I would pay any price). I didn't get much feedback on this, and with no hotels, I kind of dropped the idea. I still would like to go, though. There is a group called March on Wall Street South on Facebook that is planning a large protest on Monday the 3rd. Even though it is about a 5 - 6 hour drive from here, I am considering just going down for the day to participate in that and hand out OET cards. Of course, the more Elmers that wanted to go, the more likely I would do it. andrea@oldelmtree.com |
